Phenomenal view, good food and service. I just want to comment on the bad review, that they spell crab on the seafood nacho menu item as krab, If you don't know that means artificial, you should not be writing reviews. Crab is not a local thing in this place. The Coho salmon with ginger and something sauce was great as was the lobster sushi roll, New England Chowder, and the salads with freshs and crispy cold cruncy greens, great after dinner coffees and carrot cake-yum!

While the location is perfect, the food remains average. Went to Snug tonight to celebrate Mother's Day a day late with my mom, dad and daughters. Weather was warm enough to sit on the deck which was lovely. The waiter was initially prompt with service taking our drink orders but things went downhill from there. The waiter appeared to have too many tables. Refills were basically forgotten, they brought my dad out something he didn't order and by the time his seafood nachos arrived, we were all basically done. Not to mention the fact that the waiter accidentally spilled wine and beer on my daughter and didn't even bring a rag so she could wipe up. Accidents happen but at the very least you should offer a towel or something. Bill was $87 with only one glass of wine and no mention of wrong food being delivered or the spilled drinks. Some lessons in customer service might help. As for the food, I'll start with the nachos - I'm sure there was some seafood buried under the cheese and heaps of chips somewhere - not sure other than the seafood what was supposed to make them unique. My youngest had the burger and said it was really good. My oldest had the quesadilla and said it was average, lacked spice. I had the Southwestern salad, very average. It lacked in flavor and the dressing certainly didn't taste like anything more than salty ranch. My mom didn't remark about her pasta which tells me it probably wasn't very good. Kind of a bummer when we try to eat local. It had been a while since my last visit and I'm not likely to return any time soon.

Took Matt R.'s recommendation and ordered the sirloin strip appetizers. Came on a bed of fresh baby spinach leaves, with rice and a teriyaki sauce - cooked to perfection - was excellent. Bit of a wait to get in here - expectation was set for 20 minutes, took 12 to get in. Ended up sitting right by the rail on the channel side - beautiful view for dinner. Were even able to see/hear (faintly) the musical fountain. Wait staff weren't unfriendly, but weren't friendly either. (Could improve there.) Service was prompt. Overall atmosphere is crowded sociable fun. Out of pure curiosity, I had Portabello Mushroom burger. Oh-my-gosh - who knew vegetarian burgers could taste so great! It was perfection. Hubby/son/daughter all had burgers. They all agreed they were quite possibly the best burgers they've ever had in a restaurant, with a really beautiful smokey flavor to them. We have older kids - they were fine there. Younger kids, probably not recommended - seating is quite close, weather affects your meal - dress accordingly. Would I recommend: Yes Would I return: Yes.

Wow, some bitter reviews of this place, so we were hesitant to go at first. But what I've learned as a long-time Yelper is you take those one-star reviews with a "grain of salt". Glad we did in this case. We went on a very nice Monday evening, and of course wanted to sit outside on the patio, right along the inlet to Lake Michigan. There was a 20 minute wait, so we went inside & downstairs to the bar. This was a somewhat bad experience as the "bartender" was also serving and clearing tables. She also knew nothing about the FOUR beers that were on tap. Hint to owners: hire a full-time bartender. Anyways, while I enjoy a good micro-brew I reluctantly ordered a Lite draft and we waited for our table. After almost an exact 20 minutes, we were sat at our table. The patio was packed, however our waitress came over just minutes after we were seated. We placed our order and both got refills on our drinks. I ordered the mahi mahi entree and it came out piping hot. It was cooked just right, with a nice, somewhat spicy rub on it. The wild rice tasted very good (hard to screw that up, however), and the accompanying stir-fried vegetables were good as well. Was it the best mahi mahi I ever had? No, but it was decent. I'm in Michigan, after all. (to be fair the best mahi mahi I ever had was in Hawaii where I think it was caught just minutes before put on my plate). My wife ordered the filet cooked medium. She enjoyed hers as well, although it was clearly cooked more of a medium rare. Not a huge deal, but between that and the lack of a true bartender is what made this a three-star rather than a four-star review. As for the prices, they seem fair to me. Coming from the suburbs of Chicago it's about what we'd pay out there, except our view would be from inside and of a parking lot instead of a beautiful sunset as we watch boats pass by. The food service was fine, our waitress was friendly and attentive, I never had an empty water or beer for more than a few minutes. An overall good experience. Definitely come for the views, don't expect to be blown away by the food, but you should't be disappointed either. We would come back if we visit this area again.

Ate here on a whim with my husband after getting rude service from hostesses at Kirby House. I hadnt been here in 7-8 years and wasnt sure what to expect. Overall, this place is a-okay. Guacamole was very tasty. Quesadillas and burrito were a-okay but lacking in spice. Avoid the refried beans- stale, hard, paste-y, and cold. Drinks were very stiff and cheap to boot. Great view inside or out. We will definitely be back!

Nice restaurant. I ordered the ahi tuna with mashed redskins and green beans. It was wonderful. My only complaint, and it's minor, is that I wish my meal would have been piping hot when it was brought to me. It was quite warm/borderline hot in tempurature, I just like it steaming when I get it, so it'll still be warm for the last bite. But, the flavor was fantastic. Our waitress was attentive without being pushy, and helpful. I was a bit concerned about the negative reviews, but quite honestly, that was not my experience at all. I was quite pleased. I can't tell you if they cut corners and serve cheap quality food with other dinners, but with mine and my husbands, both were quality meals.

Holy mondo nachos! Took a weekend trip to the Grand Haven area and stopped in here for a late-afternoon Sunday meal (lunch? late brunch?) on a gorgeous sunny day. The patio had a laid back atmosphere overlooking the river and it's logjam of boats and you could tell everyone was there to have a good time. So of course we ordered beers and nachos to start! A gigantic mound of chips, beef, tomatoes, onions, and colby jack cheese, it took four of us 2 packets of sour cream, a heart attack and a stroke each to finish this plate. Nothing spectacular about it, but it really hit the spot. Next came the 1/2lb burger, which dripped with grease and made my arteries scream out for a stent but satisfied cravings for a wholesome meal. Dessert? Ugh I couldn't think about food after finishing that burger, let alone the next morning. Le Bernadin it's not but a fun place to hang out and grab some grub/drinks it is. So make sure to bring some friends. 4 stars for a fun atmosphere, standard food Revisit? If I'm ever in town!

Overall the food was average, but you cannot beat the outdoor deck with a view of the channel. Speaking of the deck, it could use a hose down. The staff was friendly and the wait was less than 15 minutes. Menu had decent kid options. The fish tacos were excellent - the sides not so much. The crabcakes were meaty and fresh.

Thought our first meal in Grand Haven should be along the water so we chose Snug Harbor. Were fortunate to score the last parking spot along Harbor Drive near the restaurant... although we saw a sign on the door that they have their own parking further to the west/south. Walked in from the street - you can turn hard left to go out to their outdoor deck seating, hard right to their sister restaurant, Jelly's, or somewhat to the left and down a fairly narrow staircase to the indoor dining room which is basically at lake level. 15 minute wait or so for dinner on a Thursday night in the summer time seemed reasonable to us. I ordered the tuna steak sandwich which came as I ordered it. (The menu does not say seared by the way). A nice thick tuna steak - great size as I couldn't finish it. I squirted some lemon on it to give it a little moisture. Arrived on a good roll with lettuce and tomato. Served with potato chips or you can pay extra for fries. The fries are tasty, but I don't believe they are homemade - they were wedges with a coated outside and fluffy potato inside. Biggest complaint about my meal - House Recipe ketchup. Why don't all restaurants serve Heinz? Companion had chicken nachos. Very good. Chicken, onion, tomato, and cheese. Side of guacamole was very generous (plenty to share), but was still $2.50. The main entree section of the menu (steaks/seafood) was priced between $20-$30 which explains the reviews which called this place pricey. The sandwich section of the menu was around $9. Server was Lacey - she was friendly and efficient, with a good smile. Based on Dawn M's review, we almost didn't go as we had a 1 year old girl in tow. Thought it was a perfect restaurant for a toddler her age though - it is a noisy (in a good way) restaurant and no matter what ruckus she made, no one noticed. In other words, the couples trying to have a fancy evening out along the waterfront didn't even sense her presence. Plus they have a kids menu with several good choices. On a final note, unfortunately, they do not take Discover.

Uhg. This place is bleak. I've been going here on dinner dates with my grandparents for years and I only endure it because they seem to like it. Everything is outrageously priced for the quality, and I've tried a new dish almost every time I've been there in hopes of enjoying at least one decent meal. This includes the Southwestern salad, bean burrito, and most recently the seafood muffin. The seafood muffin was described as a lump crab/other seafood concoction and cheese on a toasted English muffin. What I got was a cold English muffin and the seafood topping was sickeningly sweet, which made me so nauseous I couldn't finish the other half and left hungry. On a lighter note, the service was decent but our waitress was not very friendly at all. Another redeeming quality is the view of the channel and the pleasant sunsets. If you're looking for higher quality seafood, I've heard great things about Jelly's which is the restaurant upstairs from Snug that serves sushi.

Crabcakes were tasteless and crab was hard to find in them. The bacon wrapped pork medallions were a think porkchop that was carved in a circle and was very chewy. Bacon wrapped around it was soggy and very fatty to chew. Would not go back if in the area.

This was the third year our family has come here for our family night out during our week long trip to Grand Haven,MI. The menu has not changed in those three years. We waited for over an hour for our food after our order was taken despite the fact that there were a lot of open tables. The appetizers were late and were served with the entrees. The food was mediocre at best yet the bill was almost $170 for four adults and two children. We will be looking for a new dining place when we come next year.

  • Janet X.

Ugh, why do people even keep this place in business? I mean, it has an unbeatable location (hence why I'm not giving it 1 star), but the food was just short of horrible. I got scallops, usually one of my favorite foods, but it was tasteless and bland. My friend was similarly unimpressed by his seafood pasta. Our server only came around every thirty minutes, and add to that the fact that the hostess forgot we were standing there waiting for a table... I love Grand Haven, but would never come here again.

Cheap food. Seafood nachos are misleading. Fake crab. Prices too high for poor quality. Great view of the pier and river.

I had the seafood penne and it was pretty good, would have liked to see a better menu. The selection was limited.

I've always loved going to Snug. The atmosphere is amazing, the location is perfect....and on top of all of that, the food is incredible! I'm liable to start drooling, just thinking about the seafood enchiladas....delicious!!!

I agree with the others that it's a great location and right on the 'Boardwalk.' It was really nice to sit outside on a nice day. We had lunch there on a Thursday and had about a 20 minute wait for the patio. I will say that they have a good turnaround on tables and they keep people moving. I had the 'Southwestern Salad' which I thought was good. I didn't add any meat to the salad and wish I had. It wasn't that filling with just the lettuce. My husband had the 'Grand Salad' of turkey, ham, bacon and tomatoes and thought it was pretty good and filling. Overall - decent food with a great view of the boardwalk.

We dined here Friday night, the downstairs seating is warm and cozy, the fireplace was inviting. The service was okay. We enjoyed the Beef Burrito, and kid's Sirloin and Chicken Burrito, they were all tasty. My daughter didn't care for the teriyaki flavoring on her sirloin.....The menu prices range from $6 to $25 for food. My house wine $5 a glass. The setting by the water wasn't appreciated at night....I would like to come back in the summer and sit out on the deck....

A great lunch with a spectacular view MADE the day. After a long drive and all the shopping the girls and I did on Washington Street, we were hungry and Snug Harbor provided the cafe lunch we needed. Our Snug Clubs were delivered quickly along with our hot burger and French dip. Our table quickly quieted down as we devoured it all. Great food.

Among the more memorable Grand Haven experiences is a summertime meal out on the deck at Snug Harbor. The wait can sometimes be long, but it's worth the investment; the food and drinks are quite good and the service is just fine. Don't overlook the chicken burrito and the tuna steak sandwich.

I really want to write a good review for this place but it was nothing spectacular. Went last week for dinner; company was amazing, food & service so-so. We started with a Dragon Roll (from Jelly's, the adjoined sushi joint) which was just okay (I live in a city with hundreds of great sushi restaurants so I'm a bit biased). I had seafood risotto, one of the specials of the night. It was very good, perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp, mussels and scallops. He had the Grand Salad which was also excellent. The pinot noir they have by the glass is good as well. The atmosphere is lovely and cozy, especially for a winter evening. We had a corner booth with a view of the lake and a fireplace nearby. Perfect place for a date. The service was well, awkward. Our waiter seemed like he had a long night and couldn't seem to remember anything the first time. He was nice though, I just kinda felt sorry for him.

This place was recommended by a friend, and boy do I have to thank them. Had dinner on a deck overlooking the channel (bonus), drinks were very strong (double bonus) and the food....the food was excellent. Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! The burger here was outrageously good. The "sirloin strips" appetizer....no words to describe how good. This is a cant miss in Grand Haven.

  • Jack R.

While it does have a great location, I did not think this place lived up to its billing. I am not an outdoor eating fan so the deck/patio didn't do anything for me. The menu selection was fairly limited and included a lot of seafood (again, not my thing). Dinner and drinks for 9 (6 adults and 3 kids) was over $300 which struck me as more than it was worth. This just wasn't my type of place, but might be fine for people who like seafood eaten outside.

  • Lawson S.

A great location on the channel leading to Lake Michigan. I always eat on the deck during the summer. The food is ok and the menu has some variety, but it can be expensive. This place is mostly about the location on the water. It can get crowded during the summer.

  • Tom H.

Drinks B (no espresso but otherwise okay) Service A - Food C. Disappointing for the price Crab cakes over fried and dried out ( more breading than crab) scallops were good but only luke warm and the rice was cold Steak was good and cooked well Sushi was, well what can you expect in small town Michigan? Bottomline. I would not eat here again (but i an a very well travelled diner and rather picky)

  • Beth C.

Always love taking out-of-town guests here in the summer - yummy food out on the deck, watching the sun set while boats come back into harbor is what Michigan summers are all about.

  • Christina G.

Great atmosphere!! Loved having dinner on the water with the sun setting. Beer and drink selection is good. Menu is very nice. Well rounded with lovely fish entrees, steaks, sandwiches and lighter fare. We had side salads, clam chowder, halibut, crab cakes and a steak. All was very good. We were happy to have selected this restaurant. They also serve sushi that looked great.

2.5 stars Having heard about my brother-in-law taking out-of-town business visitors here, my mom decided she wanted to come here for her birthday. My expectations were not high given the reviews I'd read. First, the interior (first floor restaurant) is definitely nothing to write home about. I understand that the outdoor seating is a draw, but naturally that won't always be an option. Second, our waitress had less personality than a wet rag. She was so stone faced that it was almost scary. Not once did she smile, and I suspect if we'd asked her for recommendations from the menu, she would have shrugged her shoulders. Lastly, the food - some of it was pretty good, some of it was just average. Word of caution if ordering mac and cheese for a kiddo - it came out so steaming hot (seemed like someone had over-nuked it in the microwave) that we had to let it cool for a very long time before my niece could begin eating. Kudos for having some Michigan wines on the menu though - I liked the Bowers Harbor riesling.

We were in town checking out food trucks and thinking we wanted something a little better. Wow, this place rocks. Sushi restaurant and so much more. An outside deck overlooking silver lake and a very attractive wait staff. The food comes out like art sculptures and tastes even better.

Visiting from out of state and came here for dinner. The downstairs seating area feels a little dingy. I think the patio with the view, had it not been an hour wait, would've been a little better. The food was pretty mediocre, calamari and crab cakes were good, but the land and sea special wasn't worth the inflated price and the mixed greens in the salad had some slimy rotten pieces. Probably wouldn't return :/

    (2)
  • Katie R.

Amazing view, but prepare for a long, long, long wait for dinner - we arrived at 5:15 on a Tuesday and didn't get seated until almost 7 p.m. Good variety of food (including some vegetarian items) and a robust drink menu.

    (4)
  • Kari S.

The upper deck is a great spot to watch the Musical Fountain! We enjoyed the sushi, calamari and clam chowder, and entrees of sirloin and chicken burrito. Nice selection of wine and beer. Friendly attentive service.

Snug Harbor has an atmosphere that is very intimate and close. This restaurant is family friendly and not far from the beach, and you can watch boats coming in an going out on the channel. The food ranges from classic American to sushi. The sea food is excellent as is the dessert. My family and I have found a new special occasions restaurant.

Our waitress did a great job. Very attentive. Our food was fine, nothing amazing. I had a chicken sandwich and my husband had the veggie burrito. Other than the location, I would not be drawn for a repeat visit.

We walked in 20 minutes before closing. We had no idea until after we ordered. Overheard the front desk girls chatting and saying "here comes 2 more". Service was mediocre and food was horrific. I will never return

Seven friends getting together for dinner on the deck, but the deck was full. Put in our names and was told that about a 45 minute wait, and that they would come and get us when the table was available. We went down to the dining area for drinks and sat at a table, and let the manager know about our table on the deck. One hour and $70 later we decided to check on the table, since we were not contacted. Upon checking they told us that they decided to give the table to another group and that we would have to wait an additional hour. We asked to pay our checks, and requested to speak to the manager. Our server provided us with the checks and said the manager would be right there. Fifteen minutes later no manager, so we sought her out. The manager was rude, and told us a bold face lie, entirely different that what we were told by the people on the deck. We informed her that we are all locals, and are their winter business after the tourists leave. We also told her that we are no longer their winter business. I guess if you would like to be insulted, this should definitely be on your must list.

8 of us took a limo from Rockford to Grand Haven to surprise our wives for dinner. If I was rating to only my own I would give it a 1 but in general we had an OK meal. Crab cakes for app. were tasty but appeared to be premade and frozen - they were a bit mushy and not much texture. The wife had shrimp scampi over linguini, flavor ok but very watery/oily. I had the sashimi tuna over risotto. I ordered med rare and got well done. Would have sent it back but with the limo for transportation we had time constraints. I let the server know I was not happy but she did nothing about it. The others seemed ok with their food but no one was raving about the flavor or quality. It was dark out so we didn't even get to see the view. Very pricy for a disappointing meal.

  • Jack M.

Location on the deck is awesome overlooking the river. Service is good, food is average. Took a long time to get our food, so waitress was nice and brought chips and salsa. Nice local joint, worth stopping if you are hanging out in GH.

    (3)
  • Mike C.

The food is average and over priced what you're paying for is the scenery and location, not great food, the place is not well managed either. We waited 45 minutes for outside seating, when I our name was called we could barely hear the hostess, another group got in front of us within seconds and gave our table away. The hostess then said there were no tables available and we would have to wait even longer, they did not offer us ANYTHING in return for the screw up which was not our fault. We haven't been back since..

  • Taryn G.

My husband took me here tonight and the atmosphere was excellent. The hostess was friendly, the small deck at the bay was quaint but absolutely gorgeous to look at. And we did look at it for quite a while as we waited to be seated 40 minutes and waited to eat another 30. Luckily the wine list was filled with variety otherwise we would have been unpleasant. The food just lacked flavor...and I mean literally any flavor. I had the orange ginger salmon which tasted as though the orange ginger was a last minute glazed after thought to the overcooked slice of overcooked fish. My husband had the halibut. The poor guy's dish was more unfortunate than my own. Our waitress, Amy, however was excellent. We rate her 5 stars. She can't be blamed for bad recipes and poor cooks.

  • Jeremy V.

Service was great!! The food however...I can make better nachos for half the price. The fries were the worst. You pay for the view, not for quality of food.

  • Nathan L.

Some friends took us here for dinner. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is really nice. The wait was surprisingly short and everyone was very friendly. I had to laugh at the array of dress. From teeny boppers wearing tank tops and bathing suites to business people wearing shirts and ties. The drinks were good and the beer selection was decent. The food was good and I can't imagine anyone walking away hungry. I had the chicken burrito which was delicious! It seemed to be pretty popular. The prices were on the high side for some of the entrees. Some of the sandwiches were more reasonable. The view is awesome and great people watching. If you haven't tried Snug Harbor I certainly would.

  • Brad K.

Simply put, meh. Came here a few weeks ago and enjoyed the harbor views from the deck. Loved the location and views. That is about the only good things I have to say. The food was un-inspired, un-seasoned, and left us wishing we had gone to Applebee's or Chili's instead. What was even more frustrating is that this restaurant has SOOOO much potential, and the menu shouts high class food...but in the end every dish in our group of 7 left us unsatisfied.

    (2)
  • Chaz D.

All four of us agreed that the food was really amazing. Drinks, not so much and a bit pricey. Sandwiches cost roughly 10-14 each and come with potato chips. Exceptionally fresh food and great service. The grilled portobello sandwich was excellent. I had applewood smoked bacon added to it. My daughter had the chicken wrap and my friend had the jerk chicken with pineapple; both said it was excellent! Definitely, do this one again the next time we are in town :)

  • Bob C.

Sunset and view: 5 stars Friendly people: 5 stars Mark the bartender: 5 stars Food: 2 stars I was really disappointed. I made the mistake of listening to the hotel receptionist instead of Yelping. Halibut was dry and once frozen for sure. Pilaf and other stuff tasted like a microwaved Bird's Eye Medley. The conversation was good with the local bartender and a patron. The sunset was nice but it was the atmosphere and culinary experience was the equivalent of a Jersey Shore restaurant with a nice view. Same sh*t, different coast.

Snug Harbor has the most amazing Parmesan Roast Beef Sandwich. There can be a lengthy wait, but that's usually in the summer since the restaurant is near the water. The service is usually great, but my friends and I did have a server who paid no attention to us but was attentive of all the tables around us. She didn't come to our table for 15 minutes after the hostess seated us. Once she greeted us we ordered our beverages, and all asked for a glass of water. I understand that alcoholic beverages depend on the bartenders, but it's so simple for a server to get water. She didn't think to bring our water out before she brought us our alcoholic beverages. Even when she brought us our drinks she didn't bring our water. Then she walked away for 10 minutes and came back with water. As soon as she came to our table we ordered our food. After she brought it out and we all took a bite she told my friend to stir his food. Excuse me but butt out Journey. We know how to eat our food especially when it was a simple pasta dish (Alfredo). My friend had his first alcoholic beverage 45 minutes before he asked for a second and she asked him if he was the driver. She had some weird fetish for him. We also noticed her other tables who showed up around the same time as us had received their drinks, food, and finished eating before our food made its way to our table. My other friend asked for a dessert menu, and in Snug Harbor fashion she brought a plate out with all the desserts. She didn't sell the desserts at all by saying things like, "This is the most popular but I don't know why" and "This is the chocolate cake but I wouldn't recommend it unless you REALLY love chocolate." Other than that Saturday all of my other experiences with servers have been a lot better and this was the first I was disappointed.

Great views... Prices are way to high for what they offer!! I had mediocre appetizers for a grand dish price.. Service was good, the place definitely has potential but it's a go once never return for the price to good quality.. Meat was tough And serving size small.. I am giving three stars because if location and service alone.

This is just a great restaurant! On our recent 3 day stay in Grand Haven, we went to Snug Harbor the first night, and liked it so well we went back the third! Beautiful view right on the river. On the first night I had Seafood Penne Pasta, and my wife had the Chicken Quesadillas. Both were outstanding! On the follow up I had the Porterhouse, and she had a chicken burrito - both amazing! They have absolutely the best guacamole I have ever tasted! Service was excellent both nights with Ashley and Mary as our waitresses! When we return to Grand Haven, you can bet we will be returning to Snug Harbor!

My first visit. Food was mediocre. Had the chicken burrito because it was labeled as a house specialty. I would personally recommend not ordering that dish. It had a black bean 'cake' (very dry), the burrito had an odd nutmeg or clove kind of spice...very odd. The salsa however was very tasty. The sour cream was served in a pre packaged container much like you would get at a fast food restaurant - again, an odd presentation for a place that seems to be going for a mid- high end restaurant appeal. I will come back, but will try the Parmesan roast beef - sounds good. And of course the view from here is awesome.

Generally this place is good. Sometimes they screw up the food. (Once had rancid salsa and after I and others complained, they still served it to other people!!!). Nothing beats the deck in the summer. The food is predictable and a little pricey, but in the summer nights on the deck, it is worth it. I enjoy the Southwest Salad with the chicken and add cajan seasoning to the chicken. The hummus is ok too.

Scenic location, decent service, fairly good food. 3 stars - food 4 stars - view, level of comfort 3 stars - service We tried the calamari, the parmesan roast beef sandwich, and the spicy chicken udon noodle soup. The calamari was fresh and tasty, though the breading seemed a little heavy. On the other hand the roast beef sandwich was AMAZING. The rye bread topped with parmesan was incredible, and the beef was succulent. The fries were fantastic and are worth trying - truly a stand out item. The udon noodles were not a good choice. The broth was tasty, but there was not enough of it to enjoy, as the dish was 95% noodles. I would not recommend this dish. We got lucky with parking, and found a spot in front. I would have liked to have been seated on the deck, but there was a 15 minute wait on a Monday night, and I didn't want to wait. We chose to eat downstairs, and that was just OK. The room was pretty noisy, and the sunset view was blocked by dimming shades. The table for two was tiny, so I would recommend a booth if you are able to get one. 4 stars for the view. Service was just OK. Our waitress must have been new. She wasn't the best at answering questions, but she was pleasant enough. I wasn't impressed by any one particular staff member. They all seemed more busy than welcoming.

Service was horrible. SO slow.... It was ridiculous. We sat for 20 min with empty waters and wine. We ordered a mahi mahi maki roll that was on special as a starter. It took an hour for us to get it..... And it was not good. The fish was over cooked, cold, and chewy. My husband ordered seafood enchiladas. He really liked them. It came with beans that looked very dry. I ordered rainbow trout which I thought was ok. Kids meals were ok. If we had a good waitress this place would be a 3 star at best. We won't be going back.

Ugh, seriously so gross. I get nauseous just thinking about the food. The only upside to the very limited, and quite random, menu was the location and the view. I ordered a roast beef sandwich that tasted like a deer salt-lick. I didn't even finish the nasty sandwich and I couldn't get the horrible salty taste out of my mouth for the rest of the day.

While visiting Holland on our annual girl trip, my 2 friends and I wanted to drive up to Grand Haven. We had hiked Mt. Pisgah Dune and met a lady at the top who lived in the area. We asked about restaurants in Grand Haven and she suggested Snug Harbor. We took the scenic way up to Grand Haven and easily found the restaurant. It was nicer than we even expected since we didn't know it was on the water. Our server was great and the food was really quite wonderful. One friend had Thai Salad while the other friend and I had Seafood Penne (which was to die for!). We also had the crab cakes which were good as well.

I sat by the windows in Jelly (downstairs Snug Harbor) and watched the river traffic. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly, the Seafood Penne was wonderful and the margarita was strong. What more can you ask for?

We were actually hoping to go to Jelly's, but they had not opened yet, so we went to Snub Harbor instead. Extensive menu, great view over the channel/harbor, nice deck seating. Food was very good (we had two appetizers as entrees, I had the clam chowder and the scallops, my wife had the mussels, for a quick lunch). A bit expensive, though. Otherwise an excellent lunch, great service, great view/location.

Friendly and polite staff. Outside seating was nice. I ordered the seafood nachos. Honestly I wasn't too impressed with it. It was a lot of chese, nacho chips and not so much crab meat. It looked like they melted the cheese by putting it the microwave. Maybe I just chose the wrong item to eat.

one of my favorite local restaurants. I can enjoy something basic like chicken nachos (my favorite) to any of their seafood and always get predictably great food.

Ate here again and as we left, my husband and I said that it was a typical lunch at Snug Harbor....beautiful day to enjoy the deck and sit along the water, food was ok but not great, and the kitchen was on the slow side (but our server was nice). After years of going to Snug Harbor, this has been our experience over and over. The only outstanding meal I've ever had there was in the middle of winter (perhaps when they have to try harder to attract business?).

On a recent vacation with a friend, we decided to have a nice dinner out. Snug Harbor seemed to be the busiest place, which to us meant it was also worth checking out. The entire experience, from our first interaction with the hostess to the food we ordered, was incredibly underwhelming. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we went to be seated outside. The hostess mumbled and didn't give us a direct answer to our question of how long of a wait it would be to eat on the porch. We also asked about the restaurant Snug Harbor is attached to (or the restaurant attached to Snug Harbor?) called Jelly. Apparently you can serve food from both Snug Harbor and Jelly in Snug Habor's dining area, but Jelly only allows Jelly's food to be served in their area (it looked like a few tables sectioned off from the rest of the building). Whatever -- we sat inside, which was fine. The interior is wonderful and even the inside had great views, with big windows and a lot of open space. We ordered the smoked salmon bruschetta, which was goat cheese and smoked salmon on small toasts topped with capers and onions, as well as a balsamic vinagrette sauce. While anything with smoked salmon is automatically delicious, this appetizer fell short in a few ways. We couldn't taste the goat cheese, and I was impressed with how thinly they managed to spread it on the toast. Additionally, the balsamic sauce completely countered (read: ruined :( ) the taste of the salmon. But whatever --- my friend liked it. Different strokes! I also ordered a side salad, which was nice and fresh. The blue cheese dressing, however, had to have been watered down to at least one part dressing one part water. I would expect this from a cheap place, but I didn't pay $4 for a side salad and some very light blue cheese dressing. He ordered the crispy chicken wrap - phenomenal!! The honey mustard dressing had the right balance of flavors and the lettuce inside really added a good crunch! I really wish I had ordered that. I, too, wanted something with a crunch, so I thought nachos would sate me. Unfortunately what I was given was something I wish I didn't have to pay for. While I do appreciate the even distribution of cheese and chicken throughout this two-pound monstrosity of an entree, the entire thing tasted like it had been microwaved to hell. The chips were old and strangely moist (they'd bounce back if you bent them...), and the chicken was too dry - a characteristic that makes me suspect a microwave was used. The spices (cajun, I think?) on the chicken were good, however. I think they had an entree of the chicken with the same spices, which might have been a better choice. Overall, the atmosphere of the restaurant was great, the food subpar. Maybe next time, Snug Harbor.

My wife enjoyed a great portobello mushroom sandwich here topped with grilled red peppers and an aioli. Swiss cheese, baby spinach and sliced tomato made it more burger-esque. Served with a pickle spear and kettle chips. You can sit inside or outside, and dock your boat right outside. Lots of people come on bicycles too. If you see a line outside, don't be scared - it's probably for the Pronto Pups corndog carry out window, not Snug Harbor. The only negative we encountered during our lunch was a wobbly tabletop. As noted previously: * Nice view of the lake * Pleasant staff * Located right in downtown Grand Haven, a short walk from the beach and main street

While in Grand Haven for our anniversary, many people recommended Snug Harbor, and I am glad we listened. The atmosphere was very comfortable and casual. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Our drinks were delivered promptly. As for the food, it was fantastic. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Pork, and it was by far the best thing I have put in my mouth in a long time. I mean, it's pork wrapped in more pork. It doesn't get much better than that. My wife ordered the Chicken Duxelle, and thought it was delicious. Overall, I'm glad we listened to the locals who recommended Snug Harbor.

ok, i have a bold statement to make. if the snug wasn't on the channel with a nice deck and view, it wouldn't be a very good restaurant. and here's why. took the whole family (me, wife, three kids) last night and we all had "real" meals - meaning none of the kids had chicken nuggets or grilled cheese. i had 2 beers, my wife had 1 glass of wine and we split 1 dessert between us all. my wife and i had two of the specials, kid 1 had the crab cake appetizer as his meal, kid 2 had chicken pasta parmesian and kid 3 had the seafood pasta. the food was pretty mediocre - everybody left full (even with some leftovers) and everybody liked their dish well enough. however, the total cost of the meal with tip was $168 which i think is way too much money for food that isn't anything special. we had this meal on a november saturday night inside - so no view of the lake, no summer breeze and no sunset to watch. in a town like grand haven, location and "presentation" are part of the meal and, without it, snug harbor isn't worth the trip. bil-mar gets a bad rap for having a great location but average food and snug harbor is right there with them, in my opinion.

I'm so disappointed with my experience at snug harbor as I have heard so many good things about it. I started out with the sangria which tasted like cool aid. Then we ordered the hummus for an appetizer. Definitely the best part of the meal! One of the specials was swordfish tacos. Since it was in their specials I figured it had to be good. After waiting about 40 minutes for my meal, everything was cold. The beans were like a hard ball of paste because the were sitting out so long. The only plus to this restaurant is the view. Try Bill Mar if you want a great experience, view of the lake, and even better food.

I might be a little biased...seeing as the term "Snug" might be the most commonly used word in my vocabulary besides "o.k." or "yes". Snug Harbor is actually a little bit more upscale (in decor) than you might think by just the outsides. Snug Harbor restaurant is located in the downstairs part of the establishment overlooking the water. There is a nice dark bar with a fireplace and a lot of seating facing the water. We got right it at about 8:30 on a Sunday before Memorial Day. Right away, we saw mussels on the menu and knew we had to have them. They were fantastic! Not at all fishy, quite large, and perfectly seasoned. We've tried a few mussel plates up in Chicago and the Snug Harbor mussels were by far, the best. We had some cheap red house wine and I ordered the portobello sandwich which was really juicy. On their menu, they had a lot of mexican options which also caught my eye... The beau (my snug) had The Chicken Duxelle which he devoured (as is tradition). Our server was super friendly and the experience was great. We happened to be staying right across from Snug Harbor so it was safe to say we've def be trying it out.

This is one of my west Michigan go to restaurants for a casual dinner and a good conversation. The food is generally pretty good, not spectacular, but good for the prices. I had sushi this past summer which was ok. The desserts are really good and are large portions. I love the people watching and the proximity to the pier - a walk after dinner is always nice. Parking can be a hassle, especially during the summer months, but if you drive up the hill a street or two you can usually find a spot up there and just walk down to the restaurant. The service can be hit or miss in my opinion. I've had really friendly staff, and then some that were completely inattentive.

Yuck! Yet another Grand Haven restaurant that doesn't give a damn about its food because it's located on the water and knows tourists will pay for the view. I visited Snug the other day after many years of passing by and wondering what all the fuss was about. Suffice to say that I ended the night eating Burger King so I didn't go to bed hungry. The seafood pasta was awful. A confusing mess of tomato sauce, cream and a ridiculous, hardened caked-on crust of parmesan cheese. Yes there were a few pieces of cheap crab meat somewhere in there. But shouldn't seafood pasta taste like, I dunno, seafood, instead of the inside of a Kraft delivery truck? For appetizers the calamari wasn't terrible, but it was served with pizza sauce instead of cocktail. Yes, you have that right. Pizza sauce and calamari. The crab cakes were starchy and bland - entirely unseasoned. And don't get me started on the prices. 23 dollars for the world's worst seafood pasta? Just remember you're paying for the view, not the food. The location is indeed on the river, and the restaurant itself is clean and nice. If you're looking for a meal however, the Pronto Pup around the corner sells corndogs for a couple bucks. It's not haute cuisine, but at least it's edible.

Pros: * Nice views of the lake and incoming boats * Pleasant staff * Located right in downtown Grand Haven a short walk from the beach and main street Cons: * Food isn't memorable and a bit overpriced * We ordered the scallops for an appetizer - the flavor was there, but the scallops weren't washed properly and were very gritty. This was very disappointing considering it is a $15 appetizer. Overall: A decent restaurant with nice views. Food is just so-so.

My wife and I split the Grilled Parmesan roast beef club sandwich and I'm glad we did. We wouldn't have eaten the rest of the day, it was so big. It was also one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. I never order roast beef, let alone a roast beef sandwich but this was unique. The beef was so juicy it was almost like eating a French dip without the dip and I am always worried about getting a real fatty piece of meat. This meat was very lean. The Parmesan toasted on the outside of the bread topped it off.

I ventured up to Grand Haven while in Muskegon for business. There are lots of things to do along the water, including dining at Snug Harbor. We ate on their large outdoor patio overlooking the water, very scenic. Some of the tables have umbrellas, some are full sun. Their wine list and drink menu was pretty solid, although I expected more craft beers on tap. For dinner, I ordered the parmesan crusted roast beef sandwich. It was served on dark rye with toasted parmesan on the outside of the bread. The sandwich had rare roast beef, lettuce, tomato, and provolone (I think). The sandwich was outstanding, and huuuuuuge. I ate just a little more than half and was stuffed. What was really cool is you can order Jelly's sushi from Snug Harbor. I tried one of the inside out rolls, I can't remember the name, which had crab, shrimp, avocado, and cucumber. For not really liking shrimp or avocado, it was delish! My dining partner ordered the blackened ahi tuna sandwich (medium) which was served on a large brioche roll. It was quite good, although I advise next time to order it rare or perhaps just seared. I definitely want to go back and try some of the sushi and the fish dishes.

The food at Snug Harbor deserves three stars, but I'm adding a star for the phenomenal view of the Grand Haven channel, Lake Michigan and Grand Haven lighthouse from the deck (which is the only place I ever eat here). The menu is diverse--everything from sushi to burritos. The food is good, but a bit overpriced for this area. On a summer evening, however, there is no better place to be than on the deck at Snug.

We loved our experience so much that we came back the next day to experience it all over again! Beautiful view of the boats, water, boardwalk, and sunset. Great sushi rolls, martini selection and extensive food menu. I wouldn't give the waitstaff an A+ but it was busy. Can't wait to go back!!

Good dinner tonight at Snug Harbor! Probably one of the better burgers I've had.. Better then average beef on a great bun. Waitress Katie was sweet and helpful about things to see in Grand Haven on our trip.. Craig had the burrito which looked pretty awesome, and he ate the entire thing!! We ate inside, and I imagine the deck is probably worth the wait..

I went here on a Sunday evening around dinner time with three others. The restaurant was not very busy, but it took a while to be attended. We ate in the downstairs area as it was too cold for the deck. The view was nice of the channel and the decor was classy. The server was inattentive and unfriendly. Considering that all of us have experience in the service industry, I feel that we are pretty forgiving, but I can only describe the waiter as lousy at his job. He was slow on refills and new drinks for the table. We ordered crab cakes. They were mushy and had a nasty taste and between the four of us, we could only eat one split up out of the three that came on the plate. The server didn't seem to care when we told him they weren't very tasty. Two of the people at the table ordered their burgers plain and received everything on them. They scraped the ingredients off and ate them anyway without complaint. When the bills arrived, they were split up wrong. At this time, the server spilled a beer all over one of the people at our table, completely drenching his shirt. He left without an apology and didn't even run to grab a damp towel to help him clean up. He didn't even offer to replace the drink he spilled all over! We complained to the manager and he didn't seem to care either. He didn't comp our bill or give us any incentive to ever return as any decent restaurant would. Overall, the quality control at this place is seriously lacking from the bottom up. The food is overpriced and boring. The burger I ordered was 10$ (plus 1$ for cheese and 1$ for mushrooms) and I imagine the meat was a frozen puck out of a box, on par with a burger king whopper but not nearly as tasty. They didn't even have cheddar cheese for the burgers! The menu is basically bar food -- club sandwiches, nachos, burgers, etc. But they also have some fish and premium steaks which I wouldn't be quick to dish out 30$ for, based on how lousy a simple burger is there. Overall, my perception of this restaurant is not favorable, as you can tell. I am sure they will still have business, if from nobody else the summer tourists, but I will never eat there again.

Had a nice lunch on Snug's deck. I ordered the cheese board & a bloody mary for an appetizer. The cheese board was tasty, but a little over priced, and the bloody mary...don't bother. Their homemade bloody mary mix is bland. I ordered the Snug burger & my hubby ordered the nachos...both were tasty, but again, overpriced. We received excellent service...our waitress was a doll;)

This place was just right! After being completly discusted by the odors and dirt at the Kirby House just down the street, our group of 10 went to Snug Harbor instead. Here we found a nice and clean dining area, with very attentive and helpful staff. And some great meal selections to choose from . Our group was very happy with eveyone commenting on how good their dinners were, and that the price was very reasonable too. I'd recommend this place to anyone, they have a seafood section called Jellys, and an outdoor patio for more casual dining. Definately a do over for our group!

Fans of Meijer brand white hamburger buns will be psyched. For people who actually expect a "brioche bun" to be something other than a 10 cent white bun, keep looking. During what would turn out to be the last warm night of the year, we were walking in downtown Grand Haven and noticed the deck at this joint was still open. There were only 2 tables of people, so we decided to give it a go. The hostess seated us sullenly, then proceeded to sweep under and around our table. Several minutes later our waitress came over and took our order. I decided on a sandwich, which according to the menu would be served on a brioche bun, and opted for the fries at a $2 upgrade. My husband got a burrito. It took roughly 40 minutes for the food to arrive (I am able to accurately time this by the fact that Jimmy Buffet completed an entire story on the concert cd they were playing over the loud speaker). During this time I was able to witness a gentleman order scallops, and be informed without an apology or a smile that there were no scallops. When our food finally showed up, the aforementioned bun was a sad, cheap GFS thing. Even worse? The fries - all 5 or 6 of them - were oddly damp in spots. My husband's burrito came with a sealed packet of sour cream. I've have never been served sour cream in a sealed packet in my life, even at Taco Bell. There is a fine line between casual eating and fast food, and this place is firmly on the fast food side quality wise. So other than those items, how was the food? Remarkably unremarkable. It took just as long to get the check as it did to get the food, and we finally left cash on the table fearing how long a credit card transaction might take. At this point it was dark and cold on the deck. It seems that many restaurants in Grand Haven suffer from the idea that they don;t need to bother with either good food or good service due to some notion of "shoreline atmosphere" being the real attraction. In this case, the "atmosphere" is the same view you would get from the park below, except serrated by a scratched and buggy acrylic shield. Why? Were people committing suicide by jumping off the deck after tasting the food? Just one more mystery about this place to think about after you ponder why people continue to eat here.

I rarely write reviews and I also rarely give 5 stars but my wife and I were so impressed with the roast beef sandwich today that I had to comment. The drinks were good, the seafood salad was good, the kids meal chicken fingers were good, but the roast beef sandwich with crispy parmesan on the OUTSIDE of the rye bread was ingenious. We will definitely be taking that idea home in our back pocket. Location was great outside on the patio.

My first view a year ago, July 2010, was awesome, great views with outside seating and good servers. Food was very good the trip. Fast forward...... One year latter, July 2011, my fish was fishy'er than the fishiest fish sticks. Had to send it back for another piece that ended up being worse than the first. Everyone else had good food, must have been my choice, but a good restaurant, at this price point, should never let fishy fish leave the kitchen.

Very good for the price - we recommend. The Belvedere Dirty Martini and Cosmopolitan were perfect. The salmon bruschetta and Burgandy mushrooms were very tasty. My daughter's halibut, my wife's beef burrito, and my filet was very good - would order all these again. This was our second time here (reviewed 1st experience too). We felt it was consistent and reliable and would bring friends for a nice evening out. Next time we will check out Jelly's for sure.

Snug Harbor is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the river. It has a wonderful view of the lake and we just so happened to be eating dinner here during sunset and it really couldn't have been better. The restaurant is expensive, but it's worth it if you're celebrating something special, or just visiting Grand Haven and maximizing your experience. The restaurant is busy, so expect a wait before you're able to be seated. While you wait, take a seat by the river and enjoy the view. There's a full bar, so if you're looking for a nice wine or beer with your meal, then you won't be disappointed. I ordered the chicken and broccoli Alfredo, which consisted of grilled chicken breast tossed with broccoli, fresh Alfredo sauce, Parmesan cheese, and a large portion of linguine. While you're waiting, enjoy a cup of their spectacular New England-style clam chowder. This should tide you over until your entree arrives.

We went to Snug Harbor for dinner after a disasterous lunch at a microbrewery earlier, so we were feeling a little bitter about eating out in general. Snug Harbor, while nothing fancy, reminded us that there is still great service out there. Honestly, the food was just ok. But the service was phenomenal and there are wonderful views of the harbor from the deck. It was a good night with friends and our server busted her butt to make sure we were happy. (We actually ended up giving her the tip we didn't give the waitress on our disasterous lunch. Karma, I haz it.) Oh, a note! Get the chicken chili. My pasta was just ok, but the chicken chili was freaking awesome. I don't know what they put in it, but it was creamy and spicy and wonderful.

We enjoyed dinner on the deck with some friends and it was very enjoyable. I had the Southwestern Salad and it was fabulous! Someone mentioned that the deck needs to be hosed off, and it did. The deck furniture left a little to be desired. The tables were small with mesh tops and small, round-seated plastic lawn chairs. I was not able to hang my purse on the back of a chair and didn't really want to set it on the dirty deck floor. But I guess that's part of the fun of eating outside. It was a busy Friday night, but our waiter, Josh, did a good job of taking care of us. Snug Harbor won't be the first place we choose when we drive in from Jenison, but will certainly not hesitate to go again.

We were pleasantly surprised with Snug Harbor. Went here with the hubs and the bub for an early dinner. Service was very friendly and accommodating to our short time frame that we allotted for dinner before our toddler would have a meltdown. I had a lemon shrimp pasta and hubs had seared ahi tuna. Great pricing but maybe we're just jaded from Chicago menus. I'd say we enjoyed this dinner the most of all of the places we went in Grand Haven (including Portabellas, Kirby House, and Dee lite Diner).
